Prof. Camille Ragin

Foxchase Cancer Center, AC3 Global Lead, Philadelphia, United States of America

Cancer Genome Cohort to Promote Health Equity Among Patients of African Ancestry (AC3)

Breast and prostate cancer are the most common cancers in Namibia, but their genetic drivers remain a mystery—until now. Dr. Uamburu leads the AC3 Study, the first of its kind in Namibia, building a local cancer genome cohort to uncover the genetic and molecular causes of these cancers among people of African ancestry.

Why attend this session?
  • Gain insights into the representation of African populations in cancer genomics research.
  • Learn how this research could lead to more tailored prevention and treatment strategies for Namibians.
  • Understand the significance of a landmark study addressing critical gaps in local cancer genetics.
Dr. Caroline Maluleka

Fungal Surveillance in Africa: Implications for Laboratory Diagnostics & Public Health

Step into the hidden world of fungi with Dr. Maluleka, one of Africa’s leading experts in fungal diseases and surveillance. She’ll reveal how tracking these tiny organisms is shaping big decisions in our labs and hospitals, and what it means for the future of public health.

Why attend this session?
  • Gain insights from the frontlines of fungal disease detection.
  • Learn about the latest trends and challenges in fungal surveillance across Africa.
  • Discover how improved surveillance impacts diagnostics and public health.
  • Connect and collaborate with fellow researchers and professionals.
Prof. Tim Spracklen

Genetics of Congenital Heart Disease in Africa

Discover groundbreaking insights from the PROTEA Study—one of the first genomic investigations into congenital heart disease (CHD) in African populations. Prof. Spracklen will share findings on rare mutations, novel gene-disease relationships, and the future of cardiogenetic research on the continent.

Why attend this session?
  • Learn how genetics is reshaping CHD diagnosis and treatment.
  • Explore Namibia’s role in cutting-edge genomic research.
  • Engage with data from over 300 African patients.
  • Understand the public health implications of genetic screening.
